Can you eat coffee beans? It’s something coffee-drinkers, sure enough, have wondered when they have opened a fresh bag of coffee.
Espresso beans are the seeds of the coffee fruit the seed inside the fruit’s extracted and roasted which gives us our delicious Espresso.
Ok, we drink Coffee but can we eat the beans?
Yes, you can if you want too, as long as you eat them in moderate amounts remember coffee’s brewed in water diluting strength in the process.
When you eat whole espresso beans, you’re getting more intense effects.
Espresso has many excellent benefits especially as an antioxidant, so it stands to order that eating them whole will result in higher anti-oxidisation, but as with anything good, too much can result in adverse reactions. Too much espresso gives some people heartburn, makes them poop (the laxative effect) and can elevate cholesterol levels.
What About the extra amount of Caffeine?
There has been researching suggesting that different people have different caffeine tolerances and that no one should consume over 400mg of caffeine a day, in fact, it’s possible to overdose on caffeine, yes really!
Too much caffeine can cause mild to severe headaches, anxiety and mood swings sleeping disorders, a pounding heart and the shakes.
Consuming an excessive amount of caffeine over the long term (over 500mg daily) can cause liver damage and elevated blood pressure, not good! And before you ask there isn’t much difference between light and dark beans when it comes to caffeine content, although lighter beans tend to have slightly more caffeine than darker ones.
So all in all coffee beans are ok to consume as long as your sensible, as long as you have them now and then and not part of your everyday staple foods you’ll be fine.
