A commonly asked Espresso question is “does Espresso have less caffeine than Coffee?” well yes and no, and no this isn’t a trick answer let me explain.
A single shot of Espresso DOES have a lower caffeine content than a regular Coffee; a single shot contains around 70mg of caffeine while a regular cup of Coffee has around 95mg of caffeine.
Espresso is commonly consumed in double shots especially in UK Coffee Shops. A double shot of Espresso in a regular Coffee bar doesn’t cost much more than a single shot, for example, a single shot might cost £2 while a double shot costs around £2.30.
The barista has to use double the coffee but the preparation and extraction time is the same, so there is extra profit, and it makes the customer feel they are getting a good deal. Hence the customer usually picks the double, and Espresso drinkers commonly prefer a double shot over a single anyway.
Espresso has slightly less caffeine than a regular Coffee when it ‘s served as a single shot.
A double espresso has a significantly greater amount of caffeine than a regular coffee, 45mg more to be exact.
