Espresso Poisoning
Poor quality Coffee beans can be toxic, and poison you, toxic coffee will make you feel nauseous, dizzy, give you headaches and make you feel unwell.
Does this mean you should never drink Espresso again?
No
Bad Coffee beans will only ever come from a dodgy unreputable supplier, stick with a reputable supplier who regulates their stock and you won’t fall foul of any toxic coffee beans.
Death By Espresso
Drink a 100 Espressos in a short space of time, and you will have a caffeine overdose, which your body won’t be able to cope with, and which could kill you.
Does this mean you should never drink Espresso again?
No
Who in their right mind could or even would (if they could) slam 100 Espressos in a short space of time? No one. Death by Espresso is a theory that’s never happened to anyone living on this planet or will likely ever happen. There was a girl once who downed 14 shots of double Espresso in quick succession and ended up in a hospital for overdosing on caffeine, but you’re not that stupid so no need to worry.
Espresso Insomnia
Caffeine can cause insomnia a condition where a person can’t get to sleep or can’t stay asleep. Chronic Insomnia can lead to Anxiety, Depression and Stress, in short Insomnia and lack of sleep is not good for anyone.
Does this mean you should never drink Espresso again?
No
If you’re silly and drink a few double Espresso’s before bed then you’re asking for a bad nights sleep, Just regulate your caffeine intake during the day and stay away from Espresso a few hours before bed and you will sleep like a log.
Espresso & Cholesterol
The extraction process of Espresso includes the extraction of Cafestol a diterpenoid molecule found in the coffee bean; Cafestol is thought to raise LDL cholesterol the ‘bad’ cholestrol which can lead to heart conditions.
Espresso only contains moderate amounts of Cafestol while Turkish and Scandinavian brews contain lots of Cafestol while filter Coffee contains very little.
Does this mean you should never drink Espresso again?
No
You have nothing to worry about by drinking Espresso as long as you drink in moderation you will be fine. If you have high cholesterol and are concerned maybe switch some of your Espresso’s for filter Coffee.
Espresso & Blood Pressure
Caffeine can temporarily raise blood pressure for a short time when it’s consumed; regular caffeine consumers can have higher blood pressure than non-caffeine consumers. Regular caffeine consumers also have better tolerance to caffeine than non-consumers so when they have a coffee their blood pressure doesn’t spike as much.
Does this mean you should never drink Espresso again?
No
A shot of Espresso contains less caffeine than a regular cup of coffee and many other drinks so if anything it’s healthier, and remember the blood pressure increase from caffeine is only tempory and not permanent.
As long as you regulate your Espresso and caffeine intake, you should be fine unless you already suffer from severe hypertension in which case you should have a chat with your doctor.
